George R. Beauchamp, M.D. obtained his medical degree at Northwestern University School of Medicine and completed his residency at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. Dr. Beauchamp was fellowship trained in corneal surgery and pediatric ophthalmology at the Washington Eye Center and Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, D.C. Dr. Beauchamp is Board Certified in Ophthalmology. In 1991, he relocated to the Dallas/ Fort Worth Metroplex. He served as a Director of the American Board of Ophthalmology from 1991 through 1998.
Currently, Dr. Beauchamp is Professor of Clinical Ophthalmology at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas where he teaches ethics. He serves as Chairman of the Board of the Children’s Eye Foundation and is a member of the Board of Directors of the American Association for Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus. Dr. Beauchamp has ongoing interests in values in medicine, and particularly as they relate to children and adults with strabismus. In 2007 he published his first book, Slaves to Medicine. His research includes performance measures applied to medical outcomes. He enjoys reading, history and philosophy.
